Bankhead Boys Association

The Phoenix Boys Association began in 1994, as the Bankhead Boys Association in the Bankhead Courts public housing community in West Atlanta. Leaders of several family-owned businesses in the area led by the Love family at Printpack and the Sanderson family at Sanderson Industries developed a program within Bankhead Courts to help young boys beat the odds—to become responsible adults.

Service Area
From 1994 to 2009, the founding companies, joined by Cleveland Electric, BP/Amoco Torlon Polymers, WR Grace/Darex, Lathem Time, Simmons Mattress, George's Motor Coach and others served close to a thousand boys through a combination of workplace mentoring, scouting and individual assistance.

With the closing of Bankhead Courts the Bankhead Boys association has split to serve two new low income areas into which many of the Bankhead Courts boys have moved.

One, the new Fulton Industrial Boys Association, serves large apartment complexes in Adamsville.

The second, the Hollywood Road Boys Association, serves Section 8 apartment complexes on Etheridge Drive, Hollywood Road, and the Gun Club Road neighborhood where recently remodeled but unsold single family housing has reverted to Section 8.

The Bankhead Boys Association continues to work with high school age boys who have moved away from Bankhead Courts but remain active in the Association. Many of these boys are leaders for younger boys in the new Fulton Industrial and Hollywood Road chapters.
